Every week we highlight one of the incredible women that make up our Cursus Collective community. Women who run with heart, chase goals, and inspire the rest of us to do the same. This week, it’s Sophie Houghton 🤎

We spoke with Sophie about her decision to enter Valencia Marathon and she gave a little insight into her (very impressive) training block!

We wanted to do our first overseas marathon, and Valencia felt like the perfect choice - flat, fast, and with such an incredible atmosphere. The timing worked out perfectly too, as I’ll be wrapping up the AFLW season (I’m the AFLW Dietitian for the North Melbourne Kangaroos) right before we fly out. I live streamed the race last year and have been dreaming of that blue carpet finish line ever since!

It’s also pretty special to be able to line up with and run the same race with some of the best marathon runners in the world.

It’s been one of my biggest training blocks yet! I’m currently in peak week and will run my biggest week ever of 160km by the end of this week. Although the mileage has been relatively high, I’ve felt strong and like I’ve been handling the load really well. I’ve done some of the best sessions I’ve ever done in training over the past few weeks, and I’m super excited to put it all together on race day alongside a handful of my training buddies! We’ve got a group of us flying over to run this special event together.
