Every week we highlight one of the incredible women that make up our Cursus Collective community. Women who run with heart, chase goals, and inspire the rest of us to do the same. This week, it’s Jeanette Samson 🤎
For those that know Netty… a hug, a smile, a 'you’ve got this' - she lifts us all, one run at a time.
We wanted to speak with Netty and find out what fuels that fire- the passion, the purpose, and the heart behind every smile on the course.
‘If you’d told me at the end of 2022 I’d be running I would have said, ‘no way’. I was inspired by my husband and son who’d taken up running at the start of 2023 and I also used to look at my runner friend Meg Woodward reverentially as ‘my friend who runs’ and wanted to be part of the world she was in.
What I love about running with other women is that there is no artifice. You don’t wear makeup or do your hair, so in a way you are more honest with each other. Because it’s sometimes hard to talk on a run - you say the things you really mean and consequently there’s a truth in your conversations that you don’t always get in other activities. There’s also a sense that you’ve been on a little journey in every run and it’s a shared experience that has become one of the most lovely parts of my life.
The running community is generally really kind. It’s a space where elites and recreational athletes can really support each other. The Coolum Run Club and the Sunny Coast Pacers have been a beautiful community that I love being part of and again - its been so lovely to connect with someone who comes third at the Sunshine Coast Marathon, first at the 25km Noosa Trail, through to an 80 year old legend who’s still going strong -very inspiring.’
